YouTube Fitness Channels

One thing I love about modern technology is that it can provide everything you need in the comfort of your home.

It's freezing here in Atlanta and leaving the house to hit the gym isn't that much of an option to me so I workout at home instead. You wouldn't believe if I told you I have walked 3 miles in front of the tv while marching in place. Oh yes, it can be done.

You don't have the motivation to get out, check out some of the available fitness stuff on YouTube. I subscribe to a number of channels and I thought I would share some of my faves with you.

FitnessBlender ( The workouts are easy, the backgrounds are sharp and they a workout for every level of fitness. This is by far my favorite channel.

Zuzka ( The first time I discovered her channel years ago, I thought it was a porn site LOL But she has awesome workouts that really give results. Word to wise: the workouts can be intense so you may want to wait until you are on a intermediate level before giving her a try.

Melissa Bender ( I love that all of her workouts are done in the comfort of her home and that they are HIT (high-intensity training) workouts.

NikeWomen ( The Nike Training Club app has tons of great workouts. I even have the Nike Training game for Kinect. Definitely download this one everywhere.

New Year, New Goals

Did 2013 go by fast or what? So much happened to me both personally and professionally in 2013 that I can't wait to see what happens in 2014.

While some people believe that new year resolutions are a waste of time, I believe differently. I love the idea of setting new goals at the start of a new year and working towards them. It's like, you finally get to try-try again in a brand new year - the slate is wiped clean and you  . Personally I find it super motivating and thought I would share a few of mine with you as it relates to my health....

1. EXERCISE! I feel like I started the year off strong with this and then completely slacked the closer it got to my wedding. Before I knew it, the summer was over and my weight loss was shot. This year, I want to be more dedicated to exercising more frequently.

2. EAT BETTER. I've always opted for more healthy foods, but towards the end of the year, I began to stray from that path. I took a health scare to remind me that food is not pacifier, but rather fuel for our bodies...but it's still ok to indulge from time to time.

3. TAKE BETTER CARE OF MY HEALTH. See the previous post.

4. REST MORE. 2013 was non-stop for me but rightfully so. I mean, I did get engaged, plan a wedding, watched both my brothers graduate and I get married (all in the same weekend!), add extra duties at work and start some new hobbies all within a 6 month window at times. I think I have earned my rest.

5. RUN WITH BLACK GIRLS! RUN MORE. I didn't get a chance to spend as much time with BGR as I wanted but I plan to start the new year off right but doing more Saturday sessions with them. I don't know about those 5am runs but I got you for 7am on Saturdays :).

6. INVEST IN MORE WORKOUT GEAR. Call me vain but when I'm wearing a cute and comfort workout outfit, I feel more inclined to workout. Plus I need to start buying wicking socks, compression tights (or socks) and tutus for races.

11/8 Daily Summary

Breakfast: Cinnamon Raisin English Muffin
AM Snack: Strawberry soda (I know, I suck)
Lunch: One Chik-fil-A chicken tender and 6 waffle fries (yea I counted)
PM Snack: Spinach dip and pita chips
Dinner: Homemade chicken soup and a piece of baked fish; cranberry juice

Bonus: Two handfuls of popcorn at the movies

Today went pretty well. I had a doctor's appointment and ran tons of errands so I didn't eat very much but I tried to at least put something on my stomach. Tomorrow is Saturday so I plan to sleep late and then get up and go for a nice stroll in the morning. I might even ride my bike.

11/7 Daily Summary

Breakfast: Half a cup of fresh blackberries; one hard boiled egg
AM Snack: Cran-rapsberry juice
Lunch: Half a cup of french fries; tablespoon of ketchup
PM Snack: 7 pita chips and spinach dip
Dinner: Homemade chicken soup (chicken wings, rice, and mixed veggies - cooked in the crockpot) and a mixed green salad
Last evening Snack: Strawberry yogurt

Workout: Sit-ups and push-ups until I get tired

Not the best lunch today but I'll do better tomorrow.

Reality Check

So, my doctor put me on a diet.

Well, not directly but he pretty much said it. I've had some recent medical concerns that I figured it was time to send to the doc just to get some feedback about. Nothing major...Just a few questions since it's physical time. His response was very encouraging but his last line was what threw me.

"In reviewing your chart I see that your weight has appeared to increase a bit so a weight loss program would be a good idea."

Well damn, Doc. LOL Don't worry, I don't feel his comment was mean or intentionally hurtful. I've known my doctor for over 7 years so I totally trust his judgement. After all, this man helped bring my son into this world...literally.

Anyway, Hubs and I have working out each night before bed, mostly floor and strength exercises. My doctor's email was just the fire I needed lit under me. I'm on a diet now and my goal is to lose 20 lbs. It starts today...
